there's a shadow, you can't see my eyes

facts.

yes that is my copy of new moon. don't judge

fact. this weather is fantastic. more please!
fact. being 22 is cooler than being 21.
-proof. birthday dinosaur parties.
broccoli = trees
-caspers
i straight up stole this photo from brittany
this is our friendship

fact. lately, i've been buying chocolate chips for the express purpose of eating them right out of the bag.

fact. i finally said goodbye to [plant] betty. i was only keeping her alive for selfish purposes.

fact. i am deathly afraid that my killing of [plant] betty will have adverse effects on [person] betty.

fact. i will be terribly, terribly sad when the weather does not permit the wearing of skirts.

fact. if i didn't wear clothes, my room would always always be clean.

fact. at this very moment i am supposed to be writing a research paper on the death penalty.

fact. i am somewhat obesessed with the macro-function on my camera.

fact. i think i am unable to compose a blog that isn't a list.

fact. regina spektor is the coolest person walking the planet. i have rarely experienced the amount of joy that was felt at her concert. words cannot describe the amazingness of her performance, so i shan't even attempt it. i will just say when she sang this, i almost cried.
fact. if you hold out long enough, one of your roommates will finally do the dishes.
fact. former lab-rats make good pets. even if they were illegally-gained.

i've been flying ever since...

first.
regina spektor is on friday.
i'm pretty sure i'm more excited for her concert than i have ever been for anything else. my ipod/laptop has been a constant regina stream for the last two weeks. friday will be the accumulation of all that is great about life.

second. how can you be lay-on-the-couch, wanting to die full, and then starving an hour and half later. how does that happen?

third. having neighbors always causes curiosities. maybe it's just me, but when i hear "pull that stick out of your ass" being yelled above me i start to speculate...

fourth. it appears that winter is upon us. see evidence below.

 snow. *shudder*

fifth. i'm a fairly routine person. thus, when someone sits in my seat during OSS 1400, it throws off my whole day.

another example:
every monday, wednesday, and friday, i use the same stall in the same bathroom on the second floor of the business building. And every monday, wednesday, and friday when the lock in the door sticks, i panic and picture a life trapped inside a bathroom stall. unpleasant.

sixth. belated fall photos. i will truly miss october.

note: you can see these photos larger on my flickr.

i'll always opt to fall down these stairs in the end.

musings.

when i see someone get a text message and smile, it makes me smile. it's like a cataclysmic, chain reaction of happiness..

the
average things that happen to people are usually more entertaining than the extraordinary things.

free pie pretty much guarantees a good day

some people are geniuses. those people are
regina spektor.

fake polaroids are almost as much fun as real ones.

if i had to pick a favorite season it would be a three way tie between spring, summer, and fall. but fall is especially great right now.

i like nice people.

i'm dreaming of a studio apartment with a fish named gordon.

(winter took what summer had to say)

people, places, and things that have recently caused happiness
  • cardigans

  • having people on campus again. it was a lonely four months of summer classes. it seemed that the only two people people walking around were me and a middle aged woman

  • people watching (see above)

  • the anticipation of the new vampire weekend cd

  • people in the computer lab who watch LOST for upwards of 6 hours

  • the man in walmart whose sole purchase was a pregnancy test. good luck, sir

  • the fact that the word "dawg" is still used in passing conversation

  • impromptu road trips

  • the fall, for the brief moment before the leaves get covered in feet and feet of snow

this and that.

- sometimes (well...all times) i experience mental and physical fatigue when having to remove music from my ipod ( pam[my] ). while ultimately this process is a positive thing, and the removal of the old and un-listened is necessary to make room for the fresh and awesome, it still causes stress and grief. i feel bad for not having the capacity to hold, or listen to all my music. I'm sorry conor oberst, but i can't fit your 8 bright eyes albums, your self-titled release, and your latest work with the mystic valley band on one 16 GB purple iPod nano. i must make room for the grizzly bear album, and the dirty projectors. what would happen to my beloved rogue wave if i kept every song ryan adams decided to sing? cuts have to be made, and they are difficult for everyone.

- i saw my dad eat yogurt for the first time this weekend

- family reunions are awkward. my mother always makes me meet people. i think she wants me to impress them with.....what? my ability to grow older? that fact that i'm not homeless or selling the crack? i'm mystified by her need to show off her children. the awkwardness of reunions is compounded by the irregular social tendencies my extended family tends to exhibit. Why did my aunt, for example, inexplicably choose the moment right before i was about to bite into my potato salad, to begin telling me about her newest MTV obesession, 16 and Pregnant? Not having the funds to pay for anything above basic cable for some time, she was granted the privilege to fill me in on the complicated details. After my enlightening dinner conversation (why didn't i get to sit by the little kids debating the finer points of tonka trucks?) all those willing offered their talents for the group. One cousin (who i'm 87% certain was wearing a bump-it) sang a broadway song. This made me realize how i'm definitely not the type of person who enjoys the spotlight thrust upon her. i don't fully understand those who willingly seek it out. whatev.

- my brother finally found his S. they redid his bedroom last summer, and my mom, in a fit of bargain shopping, purchased the letters for his name. Sadly only four of the five were available (and who can be surprised at such amazing discount prices) I've been calling the poor kid Tyon for the last 12 months.

- i've perfected my deadpan. (can that be a noun?) those whom i regularly associate are able to recognize my sarcasm but others are becoming less and less aware. at a BBQ last week while perusing the eats, i declared that i would be consuming 5 or 6 hotdogs to prep for the hotdog-eating contest i was entering. The girl behind me expressed genuine surprise and wonder. i almost felt bad telling her i was kidding.

make you work work, make you work. (yeeep, a BEP reference)

sometimes at work things are fun. sometimes things are not..so much. sometimes you get paid to make snowflakes, or deliver flowers, or eat extra dessert. sometimes you have to fold 400 pairs of socks, or get a third degree burn from someone's plate of gnocchi romana (these are all purely hypothetical of course)

today to earn my minimum wage hourly rate i got to:
  • call an unending amount of book publishers to get prices to fill in the (approximately) 1 billion cells on my excel sheet.
  • speak to people from every state in the continental U.S.
  • peruse (read:stalk) various facebook photo albums while i was put on hold
  • suffer brain melt from an overdose of generic classical/elevator/easy listening melodies.
  • repeatedly stab the rubber band ball to the beat of said melodies.
  • listen to bobbi grow increasingly irritated with the computer automated receiver and thereby add a more pronounced (and usually angrier) recitation of 'ISBN'. the computer voice was affectionately named Irene after an hour of conversation. (poor irene couldn't correctly pronounce managerial)
the day was long and monotonous, but there were some (albeit brief) highlights.
  • karlie jean brought us treats. two truffles can go a loooong way to boost morale.
  • my lunch break (where i consumed some questionable ramen)
  • hearing and (respectfully) repeating the multiple accents i encountered
  • calling scranton, pennsylvania. before i was able to launch into a full-fledged dundler mifflin/jim fantasy i was jolted back to reality by Janet, a rather surly customer service representative.
  • realizing that the majority of the publishers were on the east coast and would no longer answer after 4 p.m.

IOU

Dear Blog,

I know it's been a long time since we've talked. I haven't meant to neglect you, and I know that sometimes you fall to the wayside. The truth is I've been busy doing the following things ;

  • Night Blading - (rollerblades + lack of street light + rocks = almost certain death)

  • Finding magnificent pieces at the D.I.
this was not one of them

  • Experiencing the brilliance that is r.spek. ( i highly recommend her new cd to all )

i need a yellow tape deck.
  • Serving people food and stickering text books. (not at the same time)
  • Wanting to watch these movies:

  • Watching ducks.

  • Becoming a statistics GENIUS. (i may change my major)

  • Breaking into my own apartment.

the prickly bushes through which i climbed to arrive victoriously on my kitchen counter....next to my sandwich box...
  • Consuming an inordinate amount of otter pops.

  • Trying to make summer pass as slooooowly as possible. (so far it's not working...)

Blog, i know this post doesn't make up for the days and days of sorrow i have caused. you'll be hearing from me again soon...hopefully.

sincerely,
lacy.

wild.

i love this book

imagine my excitement when i heard news of its imminent movie production.

as far as expectations go, this movie could be great or really terrible. (i guess that's true of most things) but i think i would have higher hopes if it was being made by tim burton, or a post-mortem jim henson.

on second thought, scratch that last one. labyrinth gives me the creeps.

anyway here's the trailer for it.

yeah. it could be really cheesy.
i also feel obligated to include this trailer, a clear satire. i would pay good money to watch this.

i know, right?

Salutations and Exclamations I Should Possibly Omit From My Vocabulary
  • "neat" or the alternative,
  • "neat-o" and "neat-o frito"
  • "later peeps" - usually when heading out the door, for a final and lasting impression
  • "fo-shizzle"
  • "shut up!" - i began saying it in jest, but it stuck
  • "coolio" or the always popular "cool, cool, coolio"
  • "jazzed" - as in, 'i was pretty jazzed'
  • "awesome" - it's not the words, so much as the frequency with which i use it
  • "crap-tastic"
  • "i'm outtie"
these small refinements to my daily vocabulary should increase my maturity and credibility. till then, peace out homies, i'm outtie. : )

recent.

recent (awesome) purchases i have made

a joint purchase (mine is the smaller of the two). they can nest!
a bicycle mobile. needs no further description (such would muddy its awesome)

my very first lamp. it's proximity to the mobile requires their friendship. i love keys. i haven't decided what to do with these yet. generic nutella, nestled between neil and betty, my houseplants. an unintentional purchase. i ordered 'stranger than fiction' and instead received this cd. prayers of a ragamuffin is the newest release from christian rock group A Ragamuffin Band. i've since been inspired by their ability to insert the word ragamuffin repeatedly into their lyrics. when i inquired into this matter i was delighted to find out i can keep this compact disk free of charge. happy day. : )
