thoughts on moving.

renting a u-haul truck was the best decision we've ever made. asking two friends to help us is probably tied. furniture loaded and unloaded in two hours. bam!

my survival items while moving include basketball shorts (stolen from brian, and likely to never be returned), chocolate chips, endless ponytails, and my favorite camelback waterbottle which apparently got abandoned at the u-haul counter (and was almost instantly replaced by brian, due to a student discount and his unending sweetness)

the cats assessment of the new place is favorable. having an actual hallway enables them to chase each other at breakneck speeds and oskar acts like he's never seen carpet before. probably thirty percent of his day is spent rolling around on it.

we have a pool! brian has been in it every day, and i've already acquired a fairly impressive sunburn. (if anyone walks into my office today, they might find me with my hand down my shirt trying to cool off that super sensitive sunburnt spot where my cleavage should be)

selling/buying stuff on craigslist gets you involved in people's lives in such a strange way. we picked up a nightstand and a couch last week from two different people and got to hear fairly personal details about both of their lives while we awkwardly tried to hand over the cash and leave with our new possessions. (neither brian or i are great at small talk. or...personal talk, as it were). we're also trying to sell a bathroom shelf and all five people who were interested somehow fell through. i'm going to throw it in the street tomorrow.

getting excited about a linen closet either means you're a grown up or that you used to have to store your extra sheets and blankets on the floor next to your bed. maybe both.

tonight is (fingers crossed) our last trip to the old apartment to get those last nagging items loaded and cleaning all 500 square feet of it. it feels like when you have to go visit an old boyfriend to give them their stuff back. i just want it to be ooooover now.

and to end. the cats, exhausted after chasing each other through the apartment and running into the boxes approximately 52 times.

i saw this on tumblr the other day and really liked it. i definitely get a little stressed about the things i like sometimes. and i've also been on the other end. ("she likes this band but didn't even know the lead singer's name") let's just give each other a break, right? i like knitting, but i can only make scarves and baby hats. i like photography, but i only have a point and shoot camera. i like clothes, but everything i'm wearing today is two years old.

and probably, that's ok.

confessions of a non-shocking nature.

i think the phrase "noodle over" is one of the funniest things ever. as in "here's a lease for you to noodle over." i literally just picture a big spaghetti noodle rolling around on a stack of papers.

recently i discovered the bulk bins at Sprouts, which is conveniently located a block away from my office. thusly, i have been inhaling chocolate-covered pretzels like it's my job. (can you imaaaaaagine??)

at the beginning of the summer i got five succulents. i have since killed four of them. actually, i'm only going to take blame for three, as one of them was repeatedly dug up and batted around by the cats. i don't know what it did to offend them, but it sure paid for it. the remaining plant has been relocated to a location with better sun and hopefully less visibility to those who would destroy it.

our new apartment has wood paneling in it. and i think i'm going to like it.

it has taken foreeeeever to get through a particularly unsatisfactory tube of toothpaste. (i was not digging the flavor). and since i refused to waste the rest of it, there was much rejoicing when it was finally time to buy a new one. imagine our chagrin when out of the 40+ kinds of toothpaste available, we brought home the EXACT SAME KIND.

i finally snuck my back pillow into work. and i mean literally. i waited for a morning when i was would be coming in moderately early and the other person in my office would be off. maybe it's ridiculous, but i really don't like answering questions about my back support pillow. it makes me feel like i'm 75.

i don't know that i have ever used my hot glue gun without burning myself in the process. there is clear evidence of this by the burn blister currently residing on my pointer finger.

i always unbutton my jeans as i'm walking toward the stalls in the work bathroom. that's going to be a problem for me one day, right?

the other day i missed the turn for my street because i was thinking about how cute oskar is.

last weekend i found out how much wallace likes the mindy project.

sometimes you just need to lay on the bed while the fan is pointing at you. even if your bedroom is really messy. (you can see the offending back pillow in the background)

bugs don't stand a chance around these two. (i wasn't kidding about the messy bedroom)

some pictures of our summer situation.

summer is just my favorite time of year. temperatures hitting over 100 degrees cannot dampen my spirits! (insert some sort of damp/sweaty joke here)

these are a few things we've been up to so far.

we went to the aquarium and stared at the jellyfish for a real long time. the river otters and penguins also had to withstand a lot of our attentions. i just wanted to take them all home with me. (maybe not the jellyfish? they aren't as conducive to cuddling)

we've both been getting a lot of reading done. (oskar does his best to help by lap-sitting)

my new job has a pretty lax attitude about the exact time i need to show up. since mornings are not my shining moment, i enjoy having a little more time to get moving. and to make smoothies for breakfast! (at my last job i ate instant oatmeal basically every day. it started to get real old)

because a lot of summer things are more fun to do in groups, we've made a summer hang-club. (t-shirts pending) so far we've been to a movie in the park, had a campfire night (see below) and this past weekend we went to the taylorsville dayzz fireworks and followed it up with some specialty pancakes from ihop. a table utensil may or may not have been absconded with. 

(jamilyn and nathan came to the campfire too. i just had forgotten about my camera after they got there. sorry guys)

we went to a 9th and 9th event...thing and tried out the SubMarinos food truck. we followed it up with gelato and then later we made banana bread at 11 p.m.

 for reasons.

we shaved oskar. (don't worry, we finished the job) that cat is soooo happy to not be dying from heat. and now his head looks enormous. (also i promise we still have wallace. i weirdly haven't taken any pictures of her recently)

and finally and most importantly today marks ten months of being married to this guy. he makes being married really happy and a whole lot of fun. love his face.
