costumes from 2006 and on...

happy halloween!!
this is one of my favorite holidays. to celebrate....a recent history of costumes.

a sexy bee? for inexplicable reasons. (i think i just wanted to wear a tutu). also i'm just going to say right now that i won't be apologizing for any of my photo editing choices.
(this was also the year we heard a girl say "oh man! i should have been something funny instead of slutty")

this flapper costume is probably my most favorite ever. also, we got our hair done at an actual salon. hailey and i took halloween super seriously.

tennis players. (with racquetball rackets...)

halloween time.

nerd.alert.
these were both from the same year. and there is a story about both. the top costume was actually pieced together a few years earlier because my boyfriend and i thought it would be so hilarious to dress as punks for an alkaline trio concert. we had fake tattoos and everything.

the nerd costume was what i wore to work, after everyone convinced me i should definitely dress up. i showed up the next day and NO ONE else was costumed. (one girl said she had dressed as a cowgirl but she was just wearing a plaid shirt. seriously?) the fed-ex guy didn't realize it was halloween and the next day he told me he had thought i was just having a really bad day.

margot tenenbaum, a cat, and wednesday addams. all the same year.
(look how tiny oskar was! he was dressed as a lion)

and last year! scott pilgrim and ramona flowers forever.

have a spooky scary day!

october in review

i do not understand where october went. we didn't carve pumpkins, or go to a corn maze, and we just got our costumes last night. i'm not sure exactly how i didn't realize the date... but here's what did go down this past month.

 - we went to portland! it was the perfect trip, and i'm going to post some pictures eventually.

 - we got to stay a couple nights in boise on our way to and from portland. the sweetens are my favorite and i wish i got to hang out with them every weekend.

 - i got to see janiece for the first time since a lunch-date in may. she spent a whole saturday here, and we ate, and shopped, and bought a lot of things from trader joes.

 - we had two breakfast double dates at finns. (so far i've only had the eggs benedict, and i don't know if i'll ever feel compelled to switch it up)

 - the fall fun group has had a conference breakfast, gone to a haunted forest/leatherbys (that place should just sponsor us at this point), 2/3 of us watched an 80's movie with root beer floats, and this week we're having a halloween dinner. (also 2  members have done all this with a newborn baby. impressive, yes?)

 - we met my parents in ogden this weekend for an early/late birthday celebration. (my brother's birthday is the week before mine, so we usually have some kind of family outing to celebrate them both). we played some glow in the dark mini golf, got dinner, and went to a 3D movie. it was a super lot of fun. i really like those people who raised me.

 - i got to help brian with a maternity shoot. it was really enjoyable and we got some insider information about living in portland. (as the subject of the maternity shoot was raised there)

 - through the gift of awesome friends having yard sales we scored a treadmill this weekend for crazy cheap and it now resides in our second bedroom. i've used it once and i'm already in love. i will be naming it soon. (because something you're planning on spending time with should really have a name)

the best thing that happened this month was all the time we got to spend with family and friends and definitely our boise/portland trip.

the worst thing that happened this month was realizing i didn't have any bbq sauce for our hot dog dinner.

happy end of october!

end of summer.

well it's october. so i guess it's as good a time as any to do a little summer wrap up post.

this first married summer was a good one. our Summer Fun Club (was that the official name? i hope not..) embarked on many an adventure, and brian and i tried to make the most of the longer, school-free days.

summer looked something like this...

2IMG_4202
we recreated our first date,

2PicMonkey Collage
celebrated brian's birthday. (he's sooooo cute. i can't handle it)
his party included dinner at Ruth's Diner and a 90's music sing-along. (we busted out Semi-Charmed Life like nobody's business)

IMG_4207
we had a living room campout (that the cats kept invading)

2IMG_4335
we went to tracy aviary. that place is cool and i like birds.

2IMG_4264
we went to Lagoon and i got nauseous for the first time after a ride and felt really old.

fell in love with this place.

we went camping outside of our apartment. (and look! proof above and below that there were other people around)

2IMG_4469
the boys climbed a rock,

and we went on a hike to this pretty lake.

sorry your eyes are closed brian.

2IMG_4440
we went back to the temple we got married in.

2PicMonkey Collage1
we attended the Utah State Fair for the first time. that funnel cake does not mess around.

IMG_4393
we checked out a hot air balloon festival.

and we went to a nickelcade. more proof that we have friends!
(also the striped baby bump is now a real life baby! she is adorable and we are super excited for jamilyn and nathan)

other summer fun club activities not pictured include a drive-in movie, a couple record listening parties, watching on our own (which we basically all had childhood memories of), and a bunch of late night food and ice cream runs.

also it wouldn't be fair to leave out our cat children. their activities this summer have included bird watching, napping, running through the hallway, and lurking outside the bathroom. [seriously. you won't see them for hours but the second you decide to use the bathroom they're sticking their paws under the door. it's creepy]

i bid you a fond farewell summer.

as of late

i.....

am happy that the fall weather returned, after being edged out for a moment for more winter-like temperatures.

have decided that following up dinner with two donuts is probably always a good idea, even if those donuts happened to be somewhat mediocre.

am reflecting on almost being 26, and how great and different being 25 has been.

am surprised by my outlook for the future, how my thoughts and ideas and plans have changed so much in the last year or two.

am knee deep in harry potter. i'm just starting the 5th one and remembering how frustrated i get by some of the characters. so much so that i have to take breaks after particularly harrowing chapters. (dolores umbridge? augh.)

am super looking forward to our boise/portland trip. (i can't decide which portion i'm more excited for. but it really might be the idaho part...)

am craving roasted broccoli like no other. who knew i would ever crave any vegetable?

am just filled with happiness over my husband, and our apartment, and our awesome cats. things are really great right now, and i'm just trying to soak it up.

i think fall is the most exciting time of the year! it seems like a fresh start, and i get excited about life, and new ideas, and plans for the future. and also halloween.  because a holiday focused on eating candy and dressing up is basically all i could want out of life.
