January in Review

January...is generally my least favorite month. It's just cold and the holidays are over and I'm usually gloomy. (January has also had the unfortunate luck to be the month when for three years in a row I was getting over a break up. So that definitely doesn't help its cause). But! This January...has been pretty good. Maybe it's just a fluke...or maybe a wave of change is coming.

Anyway. Highlights!

- We had a great New Years Eve party. I'm just now remembering we had a pseudo photo booth and I should get my hands on those pictures.

- Since moving a decent distance from Sawadee, we've been on the hunt for a new neighborhood Thai place. We found a great one this month! It's tiny and not super busy, and happens to be right next to our grocery store. Success!

- We had a haircut date. (Which just entailed us going to Great Clips. We do NOT cut each other's hair)

- We went to see Saving Mr. Banks.

- We finished the Harry Potter movies and then I was sad.

- We made Portland food-truck inspired grilled pb&j and nutella sandwiches. Twice. (Once on our own and once with friends. You...should try it. It's amazing)

- I almost fell asleep at the grocery store during a badly planned 10 pm trip.

- I read the Hunger Games series again. Ugh. I love/hate the last book.

- I finally realized it's unnecessary to pluck my eyebrows when my bangs just cover them up.

- We found out that if that you're having a sad night a dinner of Jamba Juice and a deep dish Little Caesars pizza is helpful.

 - We found out that if you're having a happy night a dinner at Noodles and Co. following by some Barnes and Noble time is a good way to celebrate.

- We watched Shark Tank almost every Friday night this month. Which I think is a notable achievement.

- The time I posted a photo update to the CAWS facebook page (where we adopted Wallace) and neglected to realize that all my friends could see it. It did nothing to help my cat lady status.

- An end of the night Target trip on a weeknight! (Getting me out of the house after 7 during the winter is a feat. Brian should feel proud)

- A Saturday of fun errands and a lunch date at Five Guys.

- Reinstating Sunday naps due to our earlier church schedule. And almost taking two in one day.

The best thing that happened this month was accidentally coming in at the very beginning of a documentary about Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

The worst thing that happened this month was being elated to see a Banbury Cross donut box in the break room, and opening it to find 1/6 of a donut left.

(i took barely any pictures this month. and they were mostly of cats. shocking.)

San Francisco

This is a post about the anniversary trip we took to San Francisco back in September. I can't say for certain why it took me 4 1/2 months to post this. Life is a mystery sometimes.

We had a pretty short Friday-Monday trip, but we still tried to make the most of it. Favorite things included:

- Leaving from the Provo Airport. That place is tiny and great. And everyone seems really happy to see you, which has never been my experience at any other airport..

- Food! We had burgers, mini pies, melty sandwiches, bi-rite ice cream, delicious pizza, and an amazing breakfast that included beignets. And we walked so much that I didn't even feel bad. (less notable food choices include the night we had canned ravioli for dinner, and when I had a jamba juice instead of a real meal.)

- Going back to some of our favorite honeymoon spots which included the Ben & Jerry's that we stopped at EVERY single day of our honeymoon, the photobooth at the Pier, visiting the sealions, and Jack London Square. (Which is actually in Oakland, but where we stayed for our honeymoon)

- Our AirBNB rental. It was an awesome loft apartment. We didn't spend a ton of time in it, but we did make sure to hang out on the roof one night and that was pretty perfect.

- Cracking up in the Union Square food court.

- A looong long walk to Dolores Park. We saw a lot of cool things along the way and didn't have deal with the public transportation. (There was a bunch of construction that weekend and it made everything somewhat unreliable. We got fed up with it real quickly)

- Hanging out at the park and reminiscing about our wedding.

- Almost peeing our pants on the long looong walk back. It got really serious, and we found out that I can't unlock a door quickly under pressure. (This does not bode well if I ever get chased by a murderer. And yes, I am ALWAYS mentally preparing for that)

- How happy I am going on trips with B. He's a pretty cool guy and I like him a lot.

things i am trying to work on.

Nostalgia is a very tricky thing. I always find that nostalgia is sort of like memory without the pain. And that’s why it feels so good to kind of bask in that, and I think it can be deceptively comforting. I try, in the present, to not exalt the past because I think that’s such a way of diminishing the present. - Carrie Brownstein

Don’t bother too much about your feelings. When they are humble, loving, brave, give thanks for them; when they are conceited, selfish, cowardly, ask to have them altered. In neither case are they you, but only a thing that happens to you. What matters is your intentions and your behavior.
