Currently - July

July! July was a lot of Malad time (mostly for the girls), a lot of restaurants (mostly for me), a lot of sweaty time outdoors (mostly worth it), and a shock to the system that summer is nearing the end. (Norah goes back to school in TWO WEEKS)

What We Did -

We went to Malad for the 4th of July and enjoyed the parade and the kid races, and the unexpected rain storm. I got to duck out for a quick drink from the Drive-In with Hailey and Elise. (first cherry fresh lime slush in TWO YEARS). We went on two cemetery walks, per Norah's request.(If you knew my anxiety over death you would know what great and supportive parenting this is.) There was the continuation of Cold Treat Wednesday. A Trader Joes and a new playground afternoon. A month of dance class for the girls. I got to sit in for their final class and trust me when I say hearing fifteen 5-7 year-old's tapping is an experience. A day date to Finns and wandering 9th and 9th. Brian's Super Casual Pop In 40th Birthday Party at Soho Food Trucks. The girls did two weeks of swimming lessons in Malad and came home for the weekends. For the second week I stayed the night so I could watch one of their classes. We went to the draper splash pad for the first time. June truly waved goodbye to me while running into the water and didn't look for me again.

Inspired by -

Halloween crafts. Specifically, I'm making plans for a Halloween village. I may let the girls help. Also inspired by getting rid of stuff. It really feels like it clears out my brain every time I clear out some bags of stuff from our house.

Watching -

I Think You Should Leave. Season 2 is *chef's kiss*.  Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Not sure why I abandoned this after the first season but I loved the second season and have started on the 3rd. ASP really shines with this era (and the clearly giant budget that Amazon has allotted for this show.) Never Have I Ever. Such a fave. I tried to savor it, but I blew through the new season in about a week. Making It. Lego Master. I love a good summer competition show, and Brian and I love watching these together. They're both also really cheerful and nice competition shows in the vein of British Bake-Off.

Reading -

The Lightness. Malibu Rising. One Last Stop. The Wreckage of My Presence. The People We Meet On Vacation. Highly highly recommend all of these for your summer reading list, except for The Lightness, which was just ok.

Thinking about -

Climate Change. Postpartum. The Delta Variant. Just cheerful stuff, really.

Listening to -

Still the Bo Burnam - Inside soundtrack. Also still binging The Neighborhood Listen podcast.

Researching -

Venus Fly Traps. Shady Playgrounds. Best cold brew techniques. How to dry flowers. Tiny tattoos.

Organizing -

I went through all our saved mail and got rid of...most of it. While the girls were in Malad I was able to do a deep clean/organize of their room. It was satisfying but I somehow still didn't get everything done in there that I wanted to? Also, it's already a disaster again because of course it is.

Cooking + Eating + Drinking -

All the fruit. Asparagus. All the (homemade) cold brew. Iced lavendar lattes from Bjorn Brews. Most importantly, eating out at RESTAURANTS. After not eating inside a restaurant for over a year, I went to 5 within a week and a half. Finn's for breakfast (best benedict of all time), SOMI for dinner, Rye for brunch, and two stops in Malad (The Pines and The Drive In).

Grateful for -

Being vaccinated. June getting a spot in preschool. Some thunder and rain. A few good books in a row. Brian getting a vasectomy.

What the girls are into -

Any water based activity. Going outside. Playing with friends. Swimming Lessons.

Norah continues to be interested in drawing and has been on a real streak of creating imaginative play stories for us to participate in. They generally involve her breaking an arm or leg and needing to be taken to the hospital.

June asks to watch Luca every day, rides her scooter like a pro, and plays elaborate games when she is supposed to be sleeping.

What Everett is doing -

Pulling himself up on everything. Crawling sometimes (but mostly scooting). Attacking my phone and water bottle in the morning. Doing laps around the house. SAYING MAMA *heart eyes*

Magic -

Sitting outside in my parent's yard and looking at the stars while drinking some kind of fruit moscato. Playing ring around the rosie in the pool with the girls and their friends. Singing Sea of Love to Everett while he smiled on my shoulder. The girls learning the words to Folding Chair and singing along with it.

Missing -

Traveling. The girls while they were in Malad. Blue skies (the smoke skies are officially starting to wear on me).

Looking forward to -

A Park City weekend in September. Fall, already.
