aw.kward

i don't know what's more confusing-

when i told someone i was graduating, and they assumed i meant from high school,

or the man at the grocery store who thought i was my dad's wife.

it's only teenage wasteland.

it appears it may be time for me to graduate. one predictor of this upcoming milestone was the events that transpired this weekend. namely, mardi gras.

don't get me wrong. i do enjoy getting my groove on, in my admittedly pathetic white-girl way. and usually i rather enjoy myself during these types of organized events. perhaps i was just more in the midst of it this time. or maybe my advanced age just made me more aware of what was transpiring around me. in any case i observed the the following things.

things i don't like:
  • random sweaty people grinding on me.
  • seeing random sweaty people grind on each other.
  • girls who use any organized event to try and out-skank each other. [booty shorts in february = not ok]
  • any guy who feels the need to "be the pole" (no, this is not usually viewed as charming)
  • the generally unpleasant mix of 300 people's body odor.
  • the sheer number of body parts that get slammed into my head.
  • people who stomp-dance. directly on my feet.
  • listening to crap music. [is it a new requirement for every dance/rap song to have a "put your hands in the air" command?] [and if so, when was this instated?]

the highlights:
  • i did like the people i was in attendance with
  • i only got my arm smeared on a guys sweaty (shirtless) back once.
  • they played one joan jett song
  • watching other people dance is generally really funny.

so, in summary, my mardi gras experience was not a negative one. i did get to dance to "single ladies" (and that can never be a bad thing).
however, it was definitely one of those moments. you know, those moments when you realize you're pretty close to being past a certain point in your life. this particular point, i think, is probably behind me now. i bid thee farewell, student-organized campus events!

p.s. am i the only one profoundly disturbed by the appearance of good music in the superbowl ads?

p.p.s. am i the only one profoundly disturbed by the fact that I was watching the superbowl?

back? maybe?

*ching*

thus signals my triumphant return to the blog-o-sphere.
i don't have a real reason for abandoning my blog for such an obscene amount of time. lack of time/lack of interest/winter laziness (a common affliction). perhaps i just wanted everyone to wonder if my finals were the cause of my untimely end.

those were the reasons, but more recently it's a lack of an entry exciting/witty/picture-filled enough to make up for my excessive neglect. But in lieu of, well....any of that, you just get this simple statement,

"blogging world, i have returned. i will attempt to stay put this time"

and i'll relent...with one photo. (and a bonus...surprise)

my backyard in idaho. complete with sour apple tree

and as the special bonus, i will end with one of my more favorite postsecrets
